Mike Wiggins, the owner
of the Reunion Hall sent
me a 'Thank You' note
(Oct 14, '09) that said
he had never heard so
many positive comments
from his staff about a
group before. I would
expect nothing less than
that about our group!

"Gathering together like
an extended family"
Reunions
Reunion '09 weekend actually started on Thursday evening.  Art Snyder from Virginia
arrived and he and I had dinner together.  Friday morning we also had breakfast
together and then Ben and LaNell Witham from Michigan joined us.  After lunch and
getting LaNell settled in at the hotel, Ben, Art, and I set up the displays, programs,
etc. at the Hall.  Then I picked up Louis Feis from New York at the Joplin Airport.
It was then off to the Hospitality Room furnished
to us by the La Quinta.  Snacks, soft drinks, and
beer were provided by Dave Botterman and Kris
Johnson of Texas (below at right and center).
Kris' longtime friend Bobbi Meyer from
Nebraska (below left) joined us for the weekend.
It almost
always begins
with the ladies
and the guys
at different
tables or
standing and
before you
know it, we
are integrated .
Gerald Ellman, below left, arrived
after his 5-day meandering trip
from California.  Dick Kilde from
Wisconsin is at right.
Saturday activities started with registration.  With everyone wearing a name tag and receiving some give-aways and
an updated group roster, we started the formal part of the reunion.

Mark Horrell, National service Officer for The Order of The
Purple Heart spoke to us on a general overview of the
Veterans Administration.  His topics mainly covered
registration with the VA, filing for benefits, including
disability, and how to find help if you have difficulties
dealing with the VA.  Mark is a Patients' Advocate and
works at the Clinic at Mt. Vernon, MO.  After his talk, he
answered many questions which the group had for him.

P.S.
The great idea for having a VA official at the reunion is
attributed to Kris Johnson.
We then broke for lunch and most of the group patronized Granny Shaffers Restaurant (also owned by the owner of
the Hall).  We had a great, order-off-the-menu lunch and surprised John Gray of Mississippi with an Apple Pie Alamode
when we discovered it was his birthday.  Of course, we then sang
Happy Birthday to him.
John asked me
not to tell that
he was 69, so I
promised him
that I would
keep it a secret!
Some of the ladies went on a shopping spree, guided by the "Queen of Shopping," Judy Schugel.  Meanwhile the guys
are getting their picture taken....what a handsome group!  Wouldn't you like to see yourself in this picture in 2011?
