Medals of America
A store operated by ex-military people selling medals,
ribbons, insignia, etc.
During the reunion, Rich Schugel and Art Snyder gave a presentation on the meanings of each item on the "Old Glory
Companion Flag." This flag was purchased by Ben Witham and given to the group to be used as a door prize at
Reunion '09. It commemorates heroes in every war and conflict, the 9-11 tragedy, and symbolism of the colors, red,
white, and blue, and stars on it.
Steven Kilde, trained on all the ins and outs of caring for, displaying, and destroying "Old Glory," gave a presentation
on it. And we owe Kris Johnson credit for the "flag" theme for this years reunion.
Reunion '09 Continued
Rich Yesh and Art Snyder then conducted the door prize drawings. We had almost enough prizes so that everyone
could win one. Those members who didn't get their names called were given a 575th cap.
Louis Feis won a Wisconsin sweater. It
will keep him warm in New York, but will
probably raise some eyebrows.
Dave Botterman won a CD with 172 photos
from Cam Ranh Bay
Skip Eberhardt, Kris Johnson, and M.J. Reeves all chose candles donated by Art Snyder. I can't understand why they would not have
chosen a 575th cap!!
Art Snyder is getting the names drawn by
members and Rich Yesh is announcing the
winners (it's his permanent job).
Dale Vogelsang won an 8" x 10" black
and white photo of the company in 1967
(seen on the Home page of this site).
Ben Witham's name didn't get called, but he
took home an extra cap anyway.
Herm Weststrate won a 3' x 5' "Old
Glory."
After the reunion
buffet, the gang
reassembled at
the Hospitality
Room in the La
Quinta for some
more refresh-
ments and
chit-chat. The
Colonel waved
goodnight as he
left to go back to
his room. He
rejoined us at
breakfast
Sunday morning.
Much, much, too quick, it was Sunday morning. We gathered for a breakfast buffet at Granny
Shaffers and more chatter. Then it was time for hugs, kisses, goodbyes and promises to return.
Reunion '11 will start Friday evening, Sep 23, 2011 and conclude Sunday
morning, Sep 25, 2011 with a full day on Saturday, Sep 24, 2011! We hope
to see as many of you as possible! Come join in the fun!
